Data Integration & Migration Layer
A Node.js / Express microservice that keeps a legacy FileMaker database and PostgreSQL in real-time sync, so modern web and mobile services can rely on consistent data across heterogeneous systems.
The challenge
FileMaker was the system of record, but the new web and mobile applications — and the analytics that fed on them — needed the same data in PostgreSQL. Keeping the two in step by hand meant drift, stale dashboards and one-off migration scripts every time something changed.
Approach
- A dedicated Node.js / Express microservice that synchronises FileMaker and PostgreSQL in real time, handling the schema and type differences between the two.
- Built as part of the Map Assistance (Magnus Poirier) rebuild, where the FileMaker system was being moved to a web + mobile solution and both sides had to stay consistent during and after the transition.
Result
The modern services read from a Postgres copy that is always current, analytics stopped lagging behind operations, and the migration didn’t require a big-bang cutover.
